The other day I went for a walk that went wrong….

I followed a mysterious signpost into a field of corn. After a while, the path diverged in two. It reminded me of one of those choose-your-own-adventure stories. “Should I go left and face the ogre, or right towards the terrifying castle?”

I chose left.

There was no ogre in real life, but after a while I realised that I wasn’t following a footpath anymore but rather tyre tracks, likely left by a tractor. Undeterred, I pushed on but soon found myself faced with an impenetrable hedge.

Should I push on, or should I follow the hedge in the hopes of picking up the footpath?

As I stood there wondering what to do, and a little worried that a farmer was going to burst out of the bushes and tell me to “get off my laaaand!” I heard music – gentle and melodic but also strange and eerie.

Was there someone wild camping just out of sight?

Had I been lured here by fairies with malign intent?

Nope. My mobile phone had decided to start playing a song from the playlist I had been listening to before I left.

I skirted round the edge of the field, fighting brambles and trying not to trample any crops, and eventually found my way out.

I tell this little story because it’s a lot like my career before I decided to become a copywriter. I followed a path that turned out to go nowhere. I was lost and confused and unsure what my next move should be.

I knew I was a good writer, and I knew I could tell a good story, but I didn’t know how to use those talents to make a living. Then I discovered copywriting and realised that my natural abilities could be put to use in helping businesses to attract clients and make sales.

So, I did as much copywriting training as I could, founded NeilsonCopy, and that’s how I stopped being stuck.
